SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Butterfly Beach Hotel has made a commitment to protect and preserve the surrounding environment by adhering to local and international standards regarding environmental practices.

The hotel has and will continue to improve key environmental aspects related to its operations, including the use of energy and water, solid waste management, and the use of biodegradable cleaning materials where possible, as well as addressing key environmental issues not only at the hotel but also within the community.

The hotel also recognizes the importance of tourism to the economy of Barbados, while understanding that this vital industry can have a negative impact on the local community and the environment. Wherever possible, local produce and products will be incorporated into the hotel’s purchasing policy.

Butterfly Beach Hotel also takes responsibility for informing guests of its commitment to protecting the environment and educating them on the environmental management measures in place.

PACK FOR A PURPOSE

Butterfly Beach Hotel is proud to support the local community through participation in local events and charitable functions.

We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, in partnership with the local children’s charity, the Variety Club. This initiative allows travellers to make a lasting impact in the communities they visit. By saving just a few kilos of space in their luggage to bring supplies for local schools or medical clinics in need, guests can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families in Barbados.

PURCHASING POLICY

Butterfly Beach Hotel in Barbados is dedicated to protecting the environment, staff, guests, and the local community while maintaining sustainable daily operations.

To achieve this, the hotel has developed a Purchasing Policy focused on sustainability and environmental stewardship:

  • Purchase local produce and products as the first choice where available.
  • Purchase items in bulk whenever possible to reduce packaging waste, increasing the use of refillable containers.
  • Give preference to suppliers who demonstrate environmentally friendly (“green”) practices.
  • Continue sourcing eco-friendly alternatives to Styrofoam takeaway containers.
  • Return all bottles and containers to suppliers for reuse.
  • Reduce plastic usage by implementing a “request only” program for straws and plastic cups, encouraging the use of reusable glasses at the bar.
